When does a business need its own mail server?
A dedicated mail server is a separate server that handles only your organisation’s email, with its own IP address and its own rules. It makes sense once the business outgrows standard mailboxes: more people, more brands and domains, and IT asking for its own security and retention policies.
On shared infrastructure the same rules apply to every customer at once. On your own server, filtering policies, sending limits, archiving rules and the supervision of your domain records are settled with you and applied to you alone.
Your reputation is your own too. Mail goes out from an IP address assigned solely to your server, so deliverability depends on your correspondence, not on what other users are sending.
